Working with Adults with Autism - Only High School Diploma or equivalent required

JOB PURPOSE: This position is responsible for providing support and one-on-one interventions to Adult Autism Waiver consumers. This position is responsible for working with adults on acquiring, developing, and increasing social engagement and independent living skills, and increased interaction in the community and home settings. This position works to reduce problem behaviors that impede functioning. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Implements interventions in home, school, and various community environments 

Completes all required clinical documentation 

Participates in assessment of needs, and objective development, as appropriate 

Collects data related to progress on consumer objectives 

Transports consumer to engage in community activities 

Responds to emergency/crisis situations with team members and consumers 

Maintains assigned, planned schedule 

Maintains a commitment to professional development 

Adheres to professional and ethical interaction policies and procedures 

Supports on-going and future business needs 

Community Support Services may be provided in the consumer's home or the community setting 

This position may require travel between consumers and consumer transportation - travel compensation is provided.

Required Skills 

Physical Requirements: Employee must be able to read, write and speak fluent English. Employee must be able to gain access to all AERI facilities with reasonable accommodation if required. Employee must be able to gain access to consumer’s place of treatment whether it is the consumer’s home, school, vocational setting or community. Employee must be able to interact with consumers as specifically noted in their ISP. While performing specific interventions, employee may be required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, crawl, run and if applicable, sit on floor and rise to standing positions. Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to use physical prompting, if authorized or in an emergency, to prevent injury to the consumer or another as a result of the consumer’s behavior. 

Mental Requirements: Must be able to react quickly to prevent consumer injury or injury to another due to consumer’s behavior. Must be able to deliver and perform interventions noted in the ISP. Must remain focused while intervening with consumers and must be capable of detecting warning signs and intervene accordingly to prevent any unusual incidents. Must use awareness of cultural values and biases to work effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds. Must be able to perform services in an unbiased manner and be accepting of differences of consumer/family values and/or beliefs, home conditions, and appearances unless they directly affect the outcome of goals established for the consumer’s ISP. 

Required Experience 

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required 

Persons must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. 

AERI staff will be transporting consumers and are responsible for providing his/her proof of insurance face sheet that notes the Liability coverage limits of at least $100,000 bodily injury and at least $300,000 total per accident in their policy.
